From coast to coast, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) will offer workshops directed at community bank and federal savings association directors as September draws to an end.
From Sept. 28-30, the OCC will host a “Building Block for Directors” workshop in New York. From Sept. 29-30, the agency will host “Risk Governance and Compliance Risk” workshops in Albuquerque, N.M.
The “Building Block for Directors” workshop will introduce new bank directors to the agency’s approach to supervision and provide experienced bank directors with a timely review of core concepts, the agency said in a news release.
“Building Blocks for Directors” will combine lectures, discussion and exercises to provide practical information on the roles and responsibilities of board participation. Taught by OCC supervision staff, the workshop will focus on directors’ duties and core responsibilities, discuss major laws and regulations and increase familiarity with the examination process. Time is set aside to discuss current “hot” issues facing the industry and for directors to engage the OCC’s team of instructors in open dialogue.
The workshop will be held at the OCC’s Northeastern District Office at 340 Madison Ave., Fifth Floor, New York, N.Y. 10173, and the fee is $99. Participants receive a pre-workshop reading package and course materials, assorted supervisory publications and a Dictionary of Banking Terms. The workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants.
Meanwhile, the OCC will host two separate workshops in New Mexico.
On Sept. 29, a “Risk Governance” workshop will combine lectures, discussion and exercises to provide practical information for directors to effectively measure and manage risks. The workshop also will focus on the OCC’s approach to risk-based supervision and major risks in the financial industry.
Then on Sept. 30 the agency will conduct a “Compliance Risk” workshop that combines lectures, discussion and exercises on the critical elements of an effective compliance risk management program. The workshop also focuses on major compliance risks and critical regulations. Topics of discussion will include the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering and Qualified Mortgage Regulations. The instructors also will touch on the new TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures rule.
The workshop fee is $99. Participants receive a pre-workshop reading package and course materials and assorted supervisory publications. The workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants.
