The 2024 Filing Instructions Guide (FIG) for Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) can be found via the websites for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council.
Additionally, the bureau released its Supplemental Guide for Quarterly Filers for 2024. This guide includes 2024 calendar year quarterly filing deadlines, intended to help financial institutions tasked with filing HMDA data on a quarterly basis.
The bureau describes the 2024 FIG as a “technical resource,” which financial institutions may use to file HMDA data collected in 2024 and reported in 2025.
The 2024 FIG notes “no significant changes to the submission process for data collected in 2024 and reported in 2025.” It also highlights the fact that many other processes involved in HMDA data collection and reporting have not changed.
For example, there are no changes to the required fields for 2024 data collection and reporting from the 2023 data requirements. Personnel responsible for HMDA data are advised to refer to Regulation C, the 2018 HMDA Rule, and the Data Specification section for information pertaining to 2024 requirements.
This information is of particular interest to compliance officers, staffers who collect, prepare and submit HMDA data, as well as HMDA technology support staff.
The Supplemental Guide states that there are no significant changes to syntactical and validity edits or to quality and macro quality edits, pertaining to 2024 HMDA data.
The new FIG and Supplemental Guide also includes details about updated file specifications, data specifications, edit specifications and frequently asked questions.
