Dear Readers,
Bank and non-bank lenders engage in myriad different business activities throughout their day-to-day operations. In recent times, these operations include the adoption and integration of new tools and technologies as well as continuing with more traditional activities.
The role of the “Who’s My Regulator?” report is to revisit some of those older business practices – like mergers and acquisitions or third-party partnerships – as well as investigate some of those newer practices – like fintech partnerships, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) tools, and cryptocurrency– and review which federal and state agencies are the primary regulators for those activities and the current state of regulations in each area.
We were aided by subject matter experts Tim Burniston and Tom Grundy of Wolters Kluwer Compliance Solutions and John Levonick, senior partner at Garris Horn, who spoke on fintech partnerships and using AI/ML tools.
My hope is that those of you who find yourself involved in these activities in your day-to-day work or are preparing for your company to enter into these activities can look to this report as a tool to understand the current regulatory state and know who is watching and what to expect in the not-so-distant future.
